Bird in Hand

            By asking why
You really thought you loved me
            In response to why
You said you thought you did,
            I thought you knew that
            Knowing something well enough
            Meant ignorance

            Causality demanded nothing less,
            So I surmised,
            Than using lots of energy
To break things into smaller bits

Until I learned the hard way that
To split a hair could sometimes end
            In splitting up

            Instead of giving me the
            Bird in hand I sought
