Thirty-Two Degrees

            The cooler you become

The harder I will have to work
            To keep my temperature,
            Though more fatigued
            And therefore less inclined

            Without some other-generated heat
            The self-fulfilling certainties
            Of weariness and cold
Will certainly be easy to explore
            Enough to know

            Exactly when I’ll freeze
